The White Bear Yacht Club dates back to 1889 and club record says, William Watson added a 9-hole golf course to the club’s recreational portfolio in 1912. In 1915, Donald Ross was commissioned to construct a second nine and to redesign the original layout.

The golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1962. It was originally named “The Executive Golf Club” and was initially intended to be part of a series of Executive Golf Clubs around the country. The founders decided to call the new course Hazeltine National Golf club in honor of the adjoining Lake Hazeltine. The course opened for play to club members in 1962.

The club hosted the U.S. Amateur in 1950 as well as the PGA Championship in 1959. It was designed by Willie Park, Jr. and Donald Ross and opened in 1916.
