Founded in 1985 as Portland Golf Club. The original Portland golf course was located in Fort Preble but the club then moved to Thornton Heights before setting its current Oceanside property. Ron Ron Prichard was hired in 2017 to cinduct a course restoration, removing trees, expanding greens and refurbishing bunkers.

In early times, it was known as Black Point because of the dark appearance of its forests. Prouts Neck is known also for artist Winslow Homer. Designed by Wayne E. Stiles, ASGCA, the Prouts Neck golf course opened in 1907. Redesigned in 1924 and added another nine to create the 18-hole course that’s in use today.

Established in 1896, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in the state. The 18-hole course was laid out in two stages with its original nine holes designed by Alexander H. Donald Ross is credited with designing the 18-hole layout at York Golf & Tennis Club. The course was named after another golfing Scotsman, William Wilson, who gave lessons at the club for over sixty years.
